On my first night in Stellies my friends wanted to treat me and took me to the fat butcher. Honestly I found the name odd later on I found myself wanting to name my child after them, don’t judge me, yet.
On arrival we were seated inside upstairs as the outside we wanted was quite packed. I would encourage one to book beforehand it’s quite popular, with good reason. I found the deco stylish it reminded me of those barnyards that have been refurbished into something modern. The book lover in me loved the book shelves had to stop myself from heading over and choosing a book
I found the staff to be super friendly and helpful and even waiters who weren’t serving us made sure we were fine. Our waiter Charles informed us this is due to the fact that they are not just waiters they are ambassadors of the steakhouse so they make sure to engage with all customers. They also have a daily refresher course on all things to do with service and the restaurant, I was really impressed.
Before you order you get a meat presentation where you get to see and choose the cut you want, even a background on the cows. They are pasture reared and grain fed.My friends chose the same meal they chose a stake with smoked bone marrow, baked potato and veggies. and I chose to be different and I ordered their bella burger that is served with onion rings and I exchanged my chips for mash. I should mention they have an extensive wine list (duh Sandy, we are in the winelands) .
The presentation of the food was great but then I had food envy, after tasting the steak I wanted to change my meal. However the moment I bit into my burger I knew I had made a great choice. The bun was fresh ( they make their own buns) the pattie was big and juicy and well cooked to my specifications. I actually wanted to sell all that I own and move into the fat butcher permanently. I might be dramatic (who are we kidding I am the queen of drama) but dear reader this fine establishment is worth the drama and more.
Rave reviews and great ratings
In between enjoying each morsel of food we couldn’t stop complimenting how amazing the food was and the warm inviting ambience. You could be on a date, hanging with friends or on a family night and all would feel welcome. We were informed that they are the number three restaurant and number one steakhouse in the winelands. It is absolutely well deserved. I not only recommend it but definitely want to go back and try something else on their menu especially the dessert. If you are ever in stellies do make sure to book ,your taste buds can thank me later. Have you been there or know of any other restaurants I should visit in the winelands? be sure to let me know on the comments section, I always enjoy hearing from you.
