Healthy tasty snacks ideas. Yes, they exist!

I am really good at working out when I put my mind to it and I am an even better clean eater however my kryptonite is snacking. I will be sitting in the office and I am like ooh no my jaw needs a workout or my fingers need something to do, you see I care for my body, I end up polishing sweets and chips and everything else under the sun. Which is why today I am sharing some of my favorite snacks that are delicious but are gentle on the waistline.

Baked sweet potato chips

Yes dear reader you read correctly, I am salivating as I write this whilst singing along to Ice Age
“Food glorious food” , now I am googling it so I can sing along turns out it’s a remix from Oliver wait what was I doing? Ah baked potato chips

Ingredients

2 Sweet potatoes

1 tsp of your favourite spice (I enjoy Moroccan)

olive oil

Method

Rinse the potatoes, preheat the oven. Cut the potatoes into preferred thickness for chips, place the flesh side on the roasting pan. Drizzle with olive oil add the  spice. Bake for twenty minutes and making sure to turn the chips over. Once ready enjoy the good carbs and sing food glorious food.

Rice cakes with tuna and Mayo

Honestly rice cakes taste like cardboard but I eat them purely because they help with help weight loss and are a great snack and I can see the results. I make this snack delicious by adding tuna and mayo. For extra crunch or texture I sometimes add cucumber or sweetcorn.

Ingredients

4 brown rice cakes

A tin of tuna

2 tsp of black pepper

Handful of fresh coriander

2 Sp of mayo

Method

Put the tin of tuna in a bowl, add the mayo and coriander and black pepper for taste and mix it all together. Dish your tuna and mayo onto your rice cakes and enjoy.

Roasted Chickpeas

When I started clean eating and I was looking for new foods to incorporate into my diet I came across Chickpeas. Who wouldn’t love them once you discover they’re high in vitamins and fibre and protein. I have to be honest at first I struggled with how to cook them, my friend cooked them for four hours but I discovered soaking them overnight meant that you can cook in way less time. What I enjoy about this recipe is that you can eat them alone as a delicious snack or add to your favourite chicken salad for that spicy nutty flavour

Ingredients

A cup of chickpeas

2 tbsp. of Olive oil

Pink Salt (optional)

Thai spice (whatever spice you prefer)

Method

After having pre-soaked the chickpeas the night before, preheat the oven and blot them with a paper towel to dry them. Lay them on the baking tray, drizzle with olive oil add Thai spice and bake for 30-40 minutes or until they have browned. Be sure to move them around in the tray to get that all round goldeness.

Plain yoghurt and berries

This is the best snack when you do not have time for prep and you are on the go but want to have healthy options at your disposal. I always have frozen berries in the deep freeze add some plain yoghurt and voila and you are good to go.

Dark chocolate and Almonds

Our final snack is my go to when my monthlies are here and I am craving something sweet but don’t want to ruin the progress I have made. Dark chocolate and Almonds are good for you and require no work but provide the best kind of guilt free indulgence. I have now discovered Beacon does a dark chocolate with orange slices and almond my sweet tooth has been doing cartwheels.
